‘The News’ on the move

Special announcement regarding Riverview Sports News

Riverview Sports News is on the move.

Beginning Monday, all the Salem County sports news, features and highlights local sports fans have come to expect and enjoy from Riverview Sports News these last three years will now be published on the digital platforms of The News of Salem County.

When we started Riverview in May 2023, it was with the vision of filling the black hole of sports journalism created when the local dailies disappeared. The larger media entities that replaced them only visited Salem County when it was convenient or necessary, but news and sports happened here every day and Riverview was always there to provide detailed daily coverage unavailable anywhere else.

I am extremely proud of what Riverview has brought to the county sports community. I believe the county sports fans enjoyed it as well and am very appreciative of being allowed into your homes and onto your screens each day. But an opportunity presented itself to spread our wings that was right on time.

The move to The News of Salem County (www.thenewsofsalemcounty.com) will allow us to bring the same level of sports coverage on a larger platform with greater reach and resources both financially and technically. As the website grows, so will the voices that will keep you up to date on everything Salem County.

You may have noticed we have been sharing our content with The News of Salem County the last couple weeks to prepare its readers for what they can expect, but come Monday all the stories, stats and schedules will be on NOSC all the time. Unlike the clocks that fell back overnight, we are moving forward.

Publisher Zachary Ahl and I share the vision of making The News of Salem County an independent, unbiased free daily digital newspaper covering the whole of Salem County. The recent awarding of a major grant has provided The News of Salem County a substantial boost. Now it’s on us to hit it out of the park. I am confident the merger of NOSC’s established strong news gathering focusing on local government, history and happenings with an equally strong local sports presence will allow us to do just that.

“Local sports, from youth leagues through high school, have been among the most formative influences in my life.,” Ahl said. “The lessons we learn playing sports and sharing a field or court with others stay with us for a lifetime. And when you’ve been coached by a good person, you carry a piece of them with you into everything that follows. That’s why strong sports coverage isn’t a side dish for us. It’s one of the most direct ways we show up for the people we serve: celebrating our student-athletes, honoring their families, and recording the moments that become part of Salem County’s history.

“Having said that, I’m thrilled to welcome Al Muskewitz as Sports Editor of The News of Salem County and a cornerstone of our local news coverage team. Al brings the experience, the relationships, and the deep love of this community that make him the right person to tell the story of Salem County’s athletes, teams, and families.

“As the local newspaper of record, we at The News of Salem County take that responsibility seriously. We hold ourselves to high standards of accuracy, fairness, and integrity, and we hold each other accountable to them every day. Having Al on board strengthens that commitment, and it means more to us than words can say. Welcome to the team, Al.”

I encourage you to visit The News of Salem County platforms for all your Salem County news and, again, I sincerely appreciate the support you all have shown Riverview Sports News over the years. Actually, we’re not going anywhere. Just growing.
